Ingredients
  

Fruit Filling
  • 6 cups apples peeled, cored, sliced
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Crisp Topping
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 0.5 cup butterscotch chips
Optional Garnish
  • to taste vanilla ice cream
  • to taste whipped cream

Method
 

  1. Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  2. Spray slow cooker insert with nonstick spray and layer apple mixture evenly.
  3. Combine oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt; stir in melted butter and butterscotch chips.
  4. Sprinkle topping over apples in slow cooker.
  5. Cover and cook on low 3–4 hours or high 1.5–2 hours until apples are tender and topping is golden.
  6. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor. Topping may soften if stored and reheated.
