For the Donuts
  • 1.5 cups apple cider reduced to 1/2 cup
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.125 tsp allspice
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup butter melted
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp butter melted for brushing

Method
 

  1. Simmer apple cider until reduced to 1/2 cup, then cool.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease donut pans.
  3. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  4. Whisk egg, sugars, melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla, and reduced cider.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Fill donut molds 3/4 full and bake 10–12 minutes.
  7. Brush warm donuts with butter and roll in cinnamon sugar.

Notes

Use fresh spices for the best flavor. Donuts taste best warm.
