Ingredients
  

Brownie Layer
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
Mousse Layer
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chopped
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • 8x8-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line 8x8-inch pan with parchment.
  2. Combine melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla; stir in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Pour brownie batter into prepared pan and bake 20–25 minutes. Cool completely.
  4. Melt chocolate and whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla; fold in melted chocolate.
  5. Spread chocolate mousse evenly over cooled brownies.
  6. Chill at least 1 hour to set mousse.
  7. Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder and slice into squares.
