Ingredients
  

Egg Mixture
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika optional
Casserole Base
  • 6 cups cubed bread day-old French or Italian
  • 1 lb bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup mozzarella cheese optional
  • 0.5 cup onion diced, optional
  • 0.5 cup bell pepper diced, optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread cubed bread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Add optional onions and bell peppers.
  4. Scatter cooked, crumbled bacon over the bread.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar (and mozzarella if using) over the bacon.
  6. Whisk eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika together.
  7. Pour egg mixture over the casserole layers, soaking all bread cubes.
  8. Optional: Let sit 10–15 minutes for bread to absorb eggs.
  9. Bake for 45–50 minutes until eggs are set and top is golden.
  10. Optional: Sprinkle extra cheese on top 5 minutes before baking ends, garnish with parsley.
  11. Cut into squares and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or chopped fresh herbs to the egg mixture.
