Ingredients
  

Bread Dough
  • 1.5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 0.25 cup molasses
  • 1.25 cups buttermilk

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl mix melted butter, molasses, and buttermilk.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix gently until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface and shape into a round loaf.
  6. Place loaf on prepared baking sheet and cut a deep X across the top.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until crust is firm and loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or honey. Bread is best enjoyed fresh the same day.
