Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl whisk together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl mix melted butter, molasses, and buttermilk.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix gently until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and shape into a round loaf.
- Place loaf on prepared baking sheet and cut a deep X across the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until crust is firm and loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Serve warm with butter or honey. Bread is best enjoyed fresh the same day.
