- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
- Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract; mix until combined.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and crushed candy canes.
- Scoop dough balls onto prepared sheets and top with extra chips or candy if desired.
- Bake 9–11 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are soft.
- Cool 5 minutes on pan, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Crush candy canes gently so they don't turn into powder; small chunks add texture and visual appeal.
