  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
Mix-ins
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup white chocolate chips optional
  • 0.5 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and crushed candy canes.
  7. Scoop dough balls onto prepared sheets and top with extra chips or candy if desired.
  8. Bake 9–11 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are soft.
  9. Cool 5 minutes on pan, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Crush candy canes gently so they don't turn into powder; small chunks add texture and visual appeal.
