Ingredients
  

Cheese & Coating
  • 12 mozzarella sticks string cheese, cut in half if desired
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs large
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1.5 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
For Frying
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for deep frying
Optional Dipping Sauce
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp dried basil

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Deep fryer or skillet
  • Slotted spoon
  • Wire rack

Method
 

  1. Freeze mozzarella sticks for 30–45 minutes.
  2. Set up breading stations: flour, egg+milk, and seasoned panko.
  3. Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Repeat for extra crispiness.
  4. Freeze breaded sticks for 1–2 hours.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Heat marinara sauce with olive oil and basil for dipping.
  8. Serve mozzarella sticks immediately with dipping sauce.

Notes

Double freezing and double breading ensures perfect crispy sticks.
