Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs large, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk room temperature
Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Mix in dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes.
  7. Cool completely on wire racks.
  8. Beat butter, powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla to make frosting.
  9. Frost cake layers and serve.
