- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Mix in dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk.
- Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes.
- Cool completely on wire racks.
- Beat butter, powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla to make frosting.
- Frost cake layers and serve.
